The Cowie Collection commissioned by Mortlach, 2022

Commissioned by Mortlach, Diageo to create an iconic, limited edition glass that embodies the historic brand’s tenant ‘Audacious’ resulting in a hand-crafted glass. The two cylinders intersect allowing an experience of savoring the color of the whiskey with your eyes, and from a technical perspective, the aromas open up as the whiskey interacts against both walls of the glass while swirling. This glass - with essentially a void in the middle - strikes that balance of something audacious yet functional. The Cowie is unconventional in its expectations and challenges the archetype of a glass.

The Macallan, Rare Cask Bottle Stopper, 2018

Commissioned by single malt Scotch whisky distillery, The Macallan, to create their fourth limited edition Rare Cask bottle stopper. The design embodies ‘Peerless Spirit,’ the fourth tenant of the Six Pillars of Macallan through transparent glass and warm-toned, copper-plated brushed metal.

CB2, Banks Collection, 2018

Commissioned by CB2, a division of Crate & Barrel, to design a fireplace screen, andirons, and tools set inspired by the historic Art Deco movement as expressed through reductionist line art. The challenge was to create a wholly contemporary design with a hint of vintage Deco, all while being easy to manufacture and efficiently priced. The Banks collection is manufactured in wrought iron.

Cool Hunting, Albers Vase, 2018

In response to Cool Hunting brief, which invited creation with color, the Albers vase, a colorful version of Splash (see Accessories), blends the typologies of flower frog and vase. The two-part vase creates a third color where the pieces nest. Inspired by Interaction of Color, Joseph Albers’ experiments in studying and teaching the subject, the vase is handcrafted of borosilicate glass, notoriously difficult to color.

Coca-Cola + Surface, Redefining the Iconic Bottle, 2015

Invited by Surface magazine as 1 of 11 designers to re-imagine the Coca-Cola bottle in honor of the 100th anniversary of the icon. My proposed bottle retains the trademark shape with jewel like facets, emphasizing Coca-Cola's qualities of timelessness and preciousness. It looks to be the future of Coca-Cola as its new icon for the next 100 years. The bottle itself has always been considered a collector's item, and this bottle proposed to take its place in that lineage. The bottle is made of the signature Georgia Green glass with the iconic logo integrated into the bottle itself, just as the original bottles were branded.
The results were published in the June/July 2015 issue of Surface, an American magazine of global contemporary design. Founded in 1993, Surface covers the worlds of architecture, art, design, fashion, and travel, with a focus on how these fields shape and are shaped by contemporary culture.

The Macallan, Rare Cask Bottle Stopper, 2015

Commissioned by single malt Scotch whisky distillery, The Macallan, to create their first annual limited edition Rare Cask bottle stopper. The design embodies ‘Finest Cut,’ the first tenant of the brand’s Six Pillars of Macallan through its clean-cut crystal form and reflective quality.

Food & Wine, Wine Bottle Design, 2014

One of several designers invited by Food & Wine magazine to reinvent the archetypal wine bottle, my intent was to question every aspect of the standard. My solution repositions the neck in an asymmetrical configuration that emphasizes its use as a spout and migrates the wine bottle from object to system, allowing for efficient stacking in storage and reduction of carbon footprint in shipping. The dramatic form additionally offers unique possibilities for visual identity.

As a result of my design response to the Food & Wune breif, I pursued and have recieved design and utility patents in the United States and the European Union.

The Macallan, Rare Presenter Set, 2014

Designed in collaboration with Christopher Gentner for The Macallan 2014 Rare Cask and inspired by the pleasures of serving and drinking fine whisky, our solution concentrates on presentation and overall experience. The glass is designed to concentrate the aromas within its tapered walls. The presenter with a suspended brass tray and unique handle allows for four drinks to be carried per hand for quick, efficient, and dramatic delivery at the launch event. Each glass is individually hand-formed by master glassblowers from the finest quality borosilicate glass.

OTHR, Lilium, 2014

This commission by OTHR, a line of unique 3D-printed objects for the home, came from my interest in grabbing something in one hand and going outside, or going to another room. I have an outside deck, and getting things inside and outside during the summer can be difficult. It’s nice to grab a carafe, go sit somewhere in the house, and enjoy it with someone. Lilium is a stackable carafe and cup set designed to merge function and form while keeping the ease of use and handling of the user in mind. Lilum is crafted in 3D Printed Porcelain.

Louie, 2012

Designed in response to an invited commission by The American Design Club to design a contemporary take on a weapon of self-defense, Louie is a glass baseball bat of standard proportions. Utilizing the materiality of a beer bottle and the iconic form of a baseball bat links the formal qualities of these two impromptu weapons. In its post-commission life, Louie is allowed to be a sculpture, masking the primary notion of its use as a weapon by inverting function through materiality.

Boffi, Index, 2012

Index challenges the archetype of a dual-sided mirror by forming it into a sculpture that is architectural in nature. Expressed through purity of form and reflecting light and space, the mirror becomes a formal, yet practical, jewel for the wall. Made of a brushed stainless steel tube and mirrors, Index is wall-mounted with two possible positions that allow for horizontal or vertical rotation to access both sides of the 1x by 3x magnification mirror. Index is licensed to Boffi and produced in Italy.
